Serving the Favelas of Brazil

Six mission participants from the West Coast will join ten others from around the country to travel to Rio de Janeiro this July to serve the families living in favelas in Brazil. Favelas are known as shanty towns on the outskirts of the city and are subject to extreme poverty. Our work will focus on the children who despite the challenges that exist around them are innocent and seek to have an opportunity to love and be loved. Our daily prayer walks will be combined with art projects, delivering hygiene products and preparing a vacation bible school for the young and old.

"Positive Art Does Wonders for the Heart" is the slogan used by one of the mission participants Fine Artist Eric D. Salisbury. By providing art supplies and the opportunity to create smiles, vibrant colors and scenes of hope, the goal is to encourage the children to look forward to tomorrow despite the challenges they still face in the orphanages and community today.
